A native of Egypt, cumin is another spice which historically predates Biblical times. Seeds range from 1/8 to 1/4 inch in length. Both appearance and aroma suggest its kinship with caraway. This spice comes in both, whole and ground form.

Many superstitions and characters are attached to cumin. Like cumin symbolized a miser or bride and groom would have a happy life, if they carried cumin seed throughout their wedding ceremony or if cumin seeds were cursed while sowing, they would produce a splendid crop.
